Alexander Tchubaryan

Alexander Tchubaryan was born in 1931, graduated from Historical Faculty of Moscow State “M. Lomonosov” University and Ph.D. courses at Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences. He is professor since 1972. In 1994 he is elected as corresponding member and in 2000 as a full member of Russian Academy of Sciences.

Since 1988 until now – Director of Institute of Universal History at Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as since 1997 until 2007 – Rector of Russian State University for Humanities. Since 1970 he is deputy President of Russian National Committee of Historical Sciences, in 1990 – 2000 he was Vice President of International Committee for Historical Sciences.

Prof. Tchubaryan is an author about of 300 publications; the main are “The Brest Peace treaty”, “European Idea in History in the 19th – 20th Centuries”, “Europe in 20th century. History and perspectives”, co-author and editor-in-chief of 6 vols. of “The History of Europe”, “The world in 20th century” and others.

Since 1977 Prof. Tchubaryan is co-president (from Russian side) of the Bilateral Commission of Historians of Russia and Germany. He is a President of Russian Society of the Historians – Archivists. In 2001 he is elected as a member of Scientific Council of the President of Russian Federation.
