Art. 1.- On the initiative of Atlas Copco Airpower n.v. , the "Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen/Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique" will award in 2008, one IWAN ÅKERMAN prize to stimulate innovative research on compressors and expansion machines and related technical disciplines such as aero- and thermodynamics, electromechanical drive systems, power electronics and high-speed motors, advanced bearing and seal concepts, new high-performance materials and surface coatings. Within the scope are also derivative systems for transformation and recovery of energy, as well as systems to condition the quality of compressed air or gases.
- On the initiative of , the "Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen/Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique" will award in 2008, one prize to stimulate .

The Award amounts to twenty five thousand (25.000) EUR.

Art. 2. - The Award is worldwide and open to researchers with a university degree in sciences or in applied sciences. The submitted work must be either completed or already in progress.

Art. 3. - The Award is one and indivisible.

Art. 4. - Applications should be submitted before February 1st 2008 to the Secretary General, "Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek -Vlaanderen", Egmontstraat 5, B-1000 Brussels, Belgium, using the special form available on request.

Art. 5. - The Award will be granted by the "Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen/Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique", on basis of the recommendations of a jury appointed by the Fund and according to the current regulations and legislation.

Art. 6. - Any questions concerning the applications and the awarding of the prize will be settled by the "Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen/Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique".

Art. 7. - No candidate may previously have been awarded a prize for the same work.

Art. 8. - The "Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen/Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique" may decide not to grant the prize, in which case the money will be taken in reserve for the next biennial awards.

Art. 9. - Atlas Copco Airpower n.v., in consultation with the Award winner(s), has the first right to the industrial and/or commercial exploitation, even when patents are protecting the work receiving the Award.

Art. 10. - When for a submitted work a license agreement has already been granted to a third party, the work will normally not be acceptable for the Iwan Akerman Award.

Art. 11. - Atlas Copco Airpower n.v., in consultation with the Award winner(s), has the right to make publications about the work receiving the Award, mentioning the name and the position of the author(s).

Art. 12. - No employee of Atlas Copco Airpower n.v. is eligible for the award.
